Saturday Sisters: Abigail

Wisdom

How did someone like Abigail get together with a man like Nabal? Was he so handsome she had to have him? Or did his wealth turn the heads of her parents?
Might they possibly have been happy? It seems hard to accept, since every translation indicates he was a rude oaf, but such things have happened.
At any rate, Abigail knew how to run the household. The servants came to her when decisions needed to be made, she knew how to cover her husband's offenses, and when the best times were to talk to him.
No doubt she had to know these things to survive.
She must have spent time with God, for she saw God's hand in the servant's telling her of the coming attack. She believed the promise of David's coming kingship, even when he was just a shepherd on the run. She could remind him that God preferred His people leave their revenge in His hands, rather than take it into their own.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, he should pray to God,
who will give it to him,
because God gives generously and graciously to all.
But when you pray, you must believe and not doubt at all.
James 1:5, 6aTEV

Abigail was in a difficult situation, but she didn't shrink from caring for her household, and her husband, wisely and bravely, trusting God with the results.  (For Abigail's story, see I Samuel 25.)
