Considering the white areas to be the "negative space," i would fill that in with some of my favorite doodles. |
So, below i've listed some of the details of working this design. Please note:the numbers are the order of working, and the letters give a rough idea of my thinking.
1. Ink Lines
2. choose designs to fill in (more ink)
A. i attempt to space the colors and designs evenly across the composition. one way to use this is called The Rule of Thirds.*
B. Sometimes i start with some IDEA of which motifs and colors i'd like to use, but not always.
3. black pencil / shows up grey
4. lt blue pencil
5. dk green pencil
6. purple pencil - the darker purples are from going over the area again & again with the same pencil.
C. Sometimes i change the ideas as i go along: In the background of the plaid, i'd wanted to use purple, but when i got to the lines and green stripes, i decided a little pink shading would be better.
7. At this point i'd thought i'd add dark blue, but this looks like enough.
8. Last i added the pink. Again, i'd thought to add more, but this looks like enough to me.
