Reading Old Mystery Novels in Time of COVID

Like usual, these are novels i've read before. Most recently, it's been several about Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane, as well as some of Sayers' other short stories.*

This go-around, i've been more than usually impressed by the signs of the times, especially regarding:

How is a pencil made?

Artists and vendors are making lots of videos for us, instructional and behind the scenes.

Subtle Agatha and her Subtext

One of the joys of rereading old novels is all the things you missed before in your eagerness to get the story.  i think i mentioned the one about the fellow whom they thought had defected from England to Moscow, hoping he hadn't, in the British idiom, "gone West."
Lately i reread one of my all-time favorites, "Cat Among the Pigeons."  The novel is somewhat more than 300 pages long.  In those pages, three women are referred to in terms marking them as unusual.  Essentially, these women are unusual because they do not give way to their emotions in extreme situations.

Words on Wednesday: Recent Reading

Most of my reading lately has been the works of my favorite mystery writer.  And surprisingly there were several stories that felt new -- and i think at least one really was a previously unread!

Wordless Wednesday; Memories + Words, Few/No Photos

Here i copied from my journal and added my ticket (each of us needed one to enter), placing the ticket in a pocket cut into page & protector.

As the Olympics draw to a close (not an Olympics post)

2012

We haven't really been following the Olympics here - shocking, i know - but we have caught the opening sequence a couple of times.
Anyway, i've noticed the Olympics opening sequence includes a bright sunny shot of the White Cliffs of Dover.  i've also seen sunny shots of them in some movies lately, and that looks strange to me.

i think Boom has watched them a bit more.  We saw some diving together.

1976

Last night he asked if my long-ago trip to Europe included England.  We were there for 5 days of the six weeks.
Anyway, never reluctant to pull out a scrapbook, i got Volume 3 of The Europe Collection.  About half of it covers the England time, though photos are sparse (film was running low!) and memorabilia & handwriting are much more plentiful.
Anyway, the White Cliffs of Dover.
No wonder the sunny views look strange to me.
Notice that my view of them is more iconically foggy.
