The Y2K "Joke"

Big scare, nothing happened, right?   
  Well, not exactly.  The expected problem, though exaggerated, was real.  But programmers worked hard to make sure WE, the average user, didn't experience it.

   This morning Max and i were headed to the tutor's.  i saw a personalized license plate something like this: 
  Since i've been pointing personalized plates out to Max, i described and explained it to him.  i doubt he got it, because he didn't see the plate (traffic moved) and i couldn't write it down, but i loved the abbreviated spelling and joke.
  Or is it a joke?  The day before, i'd seen a person wearing a Tshirt proudly proclaiming that the individual is fueled by coffee.
  Cute.  As Sergeant Schultz would say, "Jolly joke."
  Or is it a joke?  Can it be a joke AND reality?

Christmas Shopping with Max

  Like always, Christmas shopping turns out to be not as done as we thought.
  However, i really thought Max was done with his.

Let's call this a Halloween joke.


  Somehow a bunch of cannibals got hired, on condition that they eat no coworkers.  They agreed, but occasionally picked off junior executives.
  This went on for months.
  Then one of them ate a cleaning lady.
   "Sorry, guys, you'll have to go.  We can't have this."
   Their chief was furious.  "We had a great thing going here.    We could've gone on eating a VP here & there for years & no one would've noticed!
  "Why did you have to go and eat someone who was doing actual work?"

Sign of the Times: Money, Counterfeiting, & a Joke


 In the store today i watched the cashier inspect a $20 for signs of counterfeiting.
  She looked about my age, so, when it was my turn,  i commented how, normally, life seems about the same as when we were young, but sometimes something like this brings it home that it's very different now.
