If you are not an artist, you may find that hard to believe. But it's simple enough for a TV artist to portray in a half hour.
The scene could be anywhere, anywhen in the world. It happens
to be 1976 Yugoslavia, though i thought i might see the shepherd boy David at any time if i looked closely enough. Or maybe a pioneer in the Smokies.
Some conditions are universal, no matter what we might like to think.
The Problem: How to Convey Your Point of View
So, you see it, but the person on the other side of the table doesn't.
The first step is, what's important?
Here, we have three layers of mountains, a small foothill, a creek with sandbar, and rolling land on this side of the creek.
What is most important?
Maybe the darkest mountain? The creek? The sandbar?
Notice that, as the mountains go back, they get lighter and greyer. This is something true of issues and landscapes.
Everything is not of equal importance.
You need to choose your colors and your words accordingly.

This was done quickly, with 3 crayons. It's difficult to see that i've drawn the same scene shown above. If i intended the near mountain to be most important, did i succeed? |
