Saturday Sisters: The Kitten Story

One thing we need to do as Christians is share our own faith stories. So i will begin to share some of mine, in addition to the profile/meditations on the lives of Bible women.
To kick off this new direction, i will share a humble story about a kitten. Or rather, two or three cats, and God's timing.

The Background

When this story took place,
  • MyGuy and i were DINKS,
  • we had just moved into our house, the one we live in today,
  • we had acquired this kitten, Leaping Lena, very well-named,
  • i trained Lena to walk on a leash,
  • my working hours were 1-8pm, in a small, independently run craft shop,
  • and i was in one of the two truly life-changing Bible study groups thus far in my life.
  • Because of my hours & the nature of my workplace, i could arrange Lena's vet appointments before work and set up the extra bathroom to keep her in until i went home.

The Bible Study

Because of my working hours, i was able to be the one not-yet mom in a Tuesday morning home Bible study of SAHMs.
We dived deeply into Scripture and shared freely from our own lives. Our hostess/teacher led the way in both. And we prayed together for each others' needs.
Accordingly, one morning, one of the women shared about needing to find a home for a kitten that had come to her family.
She was embarrassed about this, since it was a small request, but her daughter had requested that she bring this to the group, and she felt she needed to, wanting to teach her the value of prayer.
i should say too why this family needed another home for the kitten: Mom was a cat lover. She'd had two cats before her marriage. But Dad hated cats. Getting rid of the cats was his condition for marrying her.
This man would never have permitted a cat in the family. Even feeding an outside one was unacceptable.
So, acknowledging that God cares for sparrows (and cats), and loves us more than those, and also acknowledging the value of a child's faith & power of a believing prayer, we united in prayer.
For a home for a kitten.

Lena, the cat who walked on a leash

The Cat on the Leash

Later that week, Wednesday or Thursday, i had a vet appointment for Lena. It was summer, and still daylight when i walked her, on the leash, to my car after work.
A family approached me. They gushed,"YOU have a black and white cat!" One of them asked, " May we have it?"
i was shocked! My cat? Whom i'd even taught to walk on a leash?!?!?!
i told them no, but. . .

Bringing the Threads Together

They told me that, on the previous Sunday evening, at a x o'clock, their beloved black and white cat had been run over on the road and died.
They wanted another cat, but only a blace & white one would do.
So i called my friend, hoping the kitten needing a home was a b&w.
YES!
Not only that, but the kitten had arrived AT THE SAME HOUR THE OTHER ONE WAS KILLED.

The Take-Away

Like i say in my upper right sidebar,* we find what we want to.
Some people will read this story and shout, "Coincidence!"
If you are one of those, that is your choice.
But here's how i see it:
