Words on Wednesday: Current Reading

My sister is clearing out books again, a never-ending job.  She loves reading as do i.
i don't know if these are all of her Robin Jones Gunn books.  i know she's still got a couple of Sisterchicks  titles of mine somewhere, so maybe there are more of these.
Something she said about these books got to me.
She counts them as one of her favorite series, and thinks them very relevant for young Christian girls, but wonders if today's young women would read them.
The stories are very much products of their times.  No cell phones, no internet. Would Todd have stayed in touch better if he could text Christy?  A little brother can't lie about big sister being grounded if he can't intercept the call before her, if there's private cellphones, right?
While these books have been written contemporary to the time in which the stories are set, i see them as portraying common teen issues.  Personally, i remember feeling "dumb" quite often while in high school, wondering what the guy was thinking and why he was so thoughtless of me, why my elders were so cruel.  Christy and her friends make mistakes, but also grow noticeably.
They could be profitably recommended in the same light as American Girl books, Little House on the Prairie, and Caddie Woodlawn.

At the moment, i'm enjoying very much watching Christy interact with her friends across the country.   She is a good example and an enjoyable read, though i may break before finishing the series.
High school was great, but i'm glad i'm no longer there!
