What is It? Art and Communication

The Vase/Face Illusion

You've seen this illusion before.  Are you looking at two faces in profile, or is it a stemmed glass?

The Life Correlation

Do you really see the point the other person is trying to make?  Or is your own all you see?
Click here ito see an article in which i've pasted four photos from around the volcano into one view as an example of this.

Positive and Negative Space

In art, we call it "positive space" and "negative space."  Beginning artists only want to draw the positive (white) space, but the picture only comes out accurately if you draw the negative (dark,  or blank) spaces also.

Together, the Whole Art

Likewise, when we sit at a table to problem-solve, the tendency is to only see our own point of view.  It takes maturity and getting out of our comfort zone to admit that there is another valid point.

How much do we know that really isn't so?

  1. great choice for thinking too. do we want to see only one; the positive or negative and who decides which positive or negative space is which.
